The film's director James Cameron recently revealed that he was involved in the updating process of his 1997 blockbuster hit Titanic, which will also utilise the technology.
Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment Company has performed a series of 3D tests on the 1991 sci-fi film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"We are certainly interested in exploring the opportunity to re-release some of Lightstorm's past films in 3D," Lightstorm partner Jon Landau said. "I don't think it's too far into the future. We're pretty far down the road."
It was reported earlier that Cameron had signed a deal to promote three-dimensional televisions in the US.
His next film Avatar will be shown entirely in 3D when it is released into cinemas on December 18.
