Danny Boyle's movie, a rags-to-riches tale of an Indian boy taking part on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?, lands the Movie Of The Year prize following a month of voting on the site in August.
"Thanks very much to everyone for the award! Fantastic! I'm very chuffed, that's great. You should never get blasé about awards because you'll be a long time in the wilderness afterwards!" Boyle told DS.
Vampire love story Twilight picks up the most gongs, landing the Best Blockbuster award and the Actress Of The Year trophy for its leading lady Kristen Stewart.
Frost/Nixon and The Damned United star Michael Sheen has been named Actor Of The Year, while other winners include Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince (Best Family Film), 17 Again (Best Comedy), My Bloody Valentine 3D (Best Horror) and Moon (Hidden Gem).
Director Terry Gilliam is honoured with the Movie Legend award for his contribution to cinema. "Is the award a heavy one or a light one?" Gilliam said upon hearing the news. "I've got a lot of doors that need propping open, that's why!"
The Star Of The Future prize goes to actress Carey Mulligan, who has appeared in Doctor Who, Pride & Prejudice and can next be seen in Brit coming-of-age drama An Education.
