Nathan Fillion has admitted that he would like to star in a film remake of The Greatest American Hero.
The actor was previously rumoured to be up for the superhero role of Green Lantern, which ended up going to Ryan Reynolds.
The star of ABC series Castle revealed that he wants to headline an update of one of the network's previous shows.
He told IFC: "There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there's none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that's a redo of The Greatest American Hero."
He added: "I'd say it's largely the same idea, the same story. But the suit would be able to change and morph into whatever it is you needed him to do. So it could become armour, a scuba suit - you could do that stuff."
The Greatest American Hero, which ran from 1981 to 1983, starred William Katt as a high school teacher that receives a red suit from aliens that gave him super powers. However, his heroic attempts were hindered because he was not given the instruction manual for how to utilise the costume.
The programme's creator Stephen J. Cannell reportedly announced last year that a feature film was in development with director Stephen Herek.
