'Wild Things' tops US box office

Spike Jonze's film adaptation Where The Wild Things Are has debuted at the top of the US box office.

The Tom Hanks-produced family adventure, which features voices from Paul Dano, Catherine Keener and Michelle Williams, has earned $32.4 million over the weekend.

The thriller Law Abiding Citizen, starring Jamie Foxx and Gerard Butler, has debuted in second place with $21.2 million, while horror film Paranormal Activity shows its highest rank yet in its fourth week of release at number three with $20.1 million.

Last week's winner Couples Retreat has fallen to the number four position with $17.9 million, with the horror-thriller The Stepfather debuting at number five with $12.3 million.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs has fallen to the number six position with $8.1 million, followed by Zombieland, the 3D re-release of Toy Story/Toy Story 2 and Surrogates, starring Bruce Willis.

Finally, Ricky Gervais's The Invention Of Lying falls to the number ten position with $1.9 million.
