Paula Wagner is reportedly planning to produce a movie adaptation of West End musical Miss Saigon.

According to Variety, Lee Daniels (Precious) is being lined up to direct the project, while the original theatre production creator Cameron Mackintosh will co-produce.

Miss Saigon, which is a reworking of classic opera Madame Butterfly, opened in the West End in 1989 and was also on Broadway for ten years.

Based before the fall of Saigon in 1975, Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil's play told the tragic love story of a Vietnamese bar girl and an American soldier.

Shooting is expected to start in 2010, with a 2011 release date planned.
