The comedian, who has won three Golden Globes, will front the ceremony next January, marking the first time that the show has had a host since 1995.

"I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down."
Philip Berk, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, added: "We are delighted to have Ricky Gervais as the host on our show."
The ceremony will be broadcast live on January 17 from 8pm ET on NBC. Nominations will be announced on December 15.
