The American Pie star told Parade that her status as a character actress gives her the chance to play a wide variety of parts.
Coolidge said: "You really do get to play a range of people, from nice to nasty gold diggers. I do kind of feel like I play a lot of oddballs and that maybe it would be good to play just a normal person.
"Maybe it would just be really good to just be a doctor, a lawyer, or the wife of Jim Carrey. I don't know if people always expect me to be funny, but I'm sure they expect something weird."
Of her role in Werner Herzog's upcoming Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, she added: "I live part of the year in New Orleans. I was in town and I heard Werner Herzog was doing that movie Bad Lieutenant, so I auditioned and actually got a part, probably the only dramatic role I think I'll ever get.
"Fortunately, Werner didn't know who I was. I guess he'd never seen Legally Blonde or American Pie, much less Pootie Tang, so he mistook me for a dramatic actress."
