Steve Martin: 'Failure inspires me'

Steve Martin has admitted that his own personal movie highlights happened much earlier in his career.

However, the actor told Metro that he had no regrets about making his less-admired films.

Martin said: "'I love Bowfinger, The Jerk, Roxanne, LA Story, Planes, Trains And Automobiles. But they were all so long ago…

"You have to take the good with the bad. If I do something that fails, it inspires me to do something that's successful. Not only commercially but artistically."

Of the difference between his day job and his move into the music industry, he added: "Comedy is much more nerve-wracking! With this I'm working with a band so there are others to turn to.

"You can get into a song and you're there for three minutes and pretty much know it. With comedy you're on the hook every six seconds."
