According to Variety, Boyle and his Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy will reunite for 127 Hours, a fact-based drama that tells how Ralston became trapped under a boulder while hiking in 2003 and was forced to cut off his right arm to free himself and save his life.
Studio Fox Searchlight is backing the film, which is being targeted for release in 2010. Speaking to DS last month, Boyle said that he hopes to film the project next March.
No actor is signed up for the lead role, but Ryan Gosling has been mentioned a potential candidate to play Ralston.
