The thriller, which is to star Angelina Jolie, centres on an Interpol agent who manipulates an American tourist to out a known criminal. Tom Cruise, Charlize Theron and Sam Worthington have previously been attached to the movie, which is based on 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer.
Harry Potter helmer Alfonso Cuaron is in discussions to direct the project, taking over from Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day's Bharat Nalluri.
Depp can next be seen in Alice In Wonderland and The Rum Diary. He is also expected to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in the fourth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie next year.
