The 22-year-old actress, who portrays vampire Alice Cullen in the Twilight movies, would play the female lead in the tale of a young couple haunted by a supernatural presence unleashed after a college experiment.
Director Todd Lincoln said that the picture is inspired by true events. Dark Castle's Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing, Variety reports.
Apparition begins production on February 1.
Greene will next be seen in New Moon, slated to arrive in cinemas on November 20.
