Screenwriter DeVincentis will adapt Beth Raymer's upcoming memoir Lay The Favourite, Take The Dog, which follows a 30-something woman as she meets a group of middle-aged nerds who use their maths skills to gamble in Las Vegas. Frears is currently attached to direct the project.
"It's a less violent, less sketchy version of the mob," DeVincentis told The Hollywood Reporter. "This is the version of 50-year-old math geeks from Queens in basketball shorts who have pet guinea pigs."
Frears released romantic drama Chéri earlier this year and is currently working on Tamara Drewe with Gemma Arterton.
