'Paranormal Activity' to break $100m barrier

Oren Peli's ghost story, filmed in his own house on a budget of just $15,000, has already surpassed The Blair Witch Project to become one of the most profitable movies of all time.
Paranormal initially opened on 12 screens across the US and quickly expanded as word-of-mouth and demand grew via a website where horror fans requested that the movie screen in their town.
Paramount CEO Brad Grey said: "What is truly amazing about Paranormal Activity is the depth of commitment from fans who demanded to see it. Adam Goodman, our head of production, believed in the film and championed it from the very first screening.
"This box office milestone is also a testament to Oren Peli's considerable talents as a filmmaker. All of us at Paramount are proud to have been involved with his revolutionary project."
Paranormal Activity, starring Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, will open in the UK on November 25. A sequel is already believed to be in the planning stages.
