Meyer: 'Pattinson is perfect for Edward'

Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has claimed that Robert Pattinson is perfect for the role of vampire Edward Cullen.

Meyer told E! that she had initially been concerned that it would be impossible to find someone to play Edward.

"I knew that the problem was going to be Edward, because he's the perfect vampire," she said. "How do you cast that from your pool of human actors?"

However, she praised Pattinson's "significantly-featured" face and added that he "doesn't look like everybody else".

"There's something unusual," she said. "There are moments where he looks exactly like he did in my head."

Meyer also praised Kristen Stewart, who plays Bella in the films.

"There's plenty of people who look like the girl next door," she explained. "We were really lucky with Kristen Stewart, who is a phenomenal actress."

Twilight: New Moon is released on November 20.
