Written by Seth Lochhead and David Farr, the project centres on a 14-year-old Eastern European girl who has been raised by her father to be a ruthless assassin. She later finds friendship with a French family and must leave behind her dark past.
Danny Boyle and Alfonso Cuaron were previously interested in directing Hanna.
Wright had initially planned to make period drama Indian Summer his follow-up to The Soloist, but the project collapsed due to budget and story conflicts. He also turned down the chance to reunite with his Atonement star Keira Knightley for musical My Fair Lady.
