Nimoy: 'Star Trek doesn't need me'

Rex Features

Leonard Nimoy has once again declared that he is unlikely to return for the sequel to Star Trek.

The 78-year-old told Movieweb that he was excited to reprise the role of Spock for J.J. Abrams's first take on the franchise, but doubts he will come back for another go-round.

"I don't think there is room for me to return in a sequel. I don't think they need me," he said during a red carpet event to promote Star Trek's release on DVD and Blu-ray.

He added: "I am happy to see Zachary [Quinto] continue on with the role. I don't believe a second film would benefit from me being a part of it. If J.J. asked me to come back, I would consider it. But I don't think it is necessary, nor do I think that is part of J.J.'s plan."
