Straczynski: 'Surfer script in limbo'

According to the acclaimed comic book scribe, the studio is hesitant to green light the project due to the performance of 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer at the box office.
"What happened was when FF2 didn't do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a Silver Surfer movie," Straczynski told Collider. "The script that I wrote picked up right where FF2 left off. So if they do a Silver Surfer film down the road, it'll have to be its own separate things."
It was previously reported that Doug Jones, who portrayed the Surfer in FF2, would relish the opportunity to reprise his role for the character's proposed solo outing.
"There are still a couple of years left on their option for two more pictures with me, as a three-picture deal is quite standard when starting a franchise-potential character. But with all the 'reboot' talk of the Fantastic Four, I have no idea where that leaves the Silver Surfer end of things. I would love to revisit this character. I do love Norrin Radd," he told Itsjustmovies.com.
Created by Jack Kirby, the Silver Surfer first appeared in Fantastic Four #48 in 1966. He has since made cameo appearances in many of Marvel's major titles and featured in his own ongoing series between 1987 and 1998.
