Carla Bruni-Sarkozy said that she was thrilled when the American director approached her during a visit to Paris earlier this year.
The 41-year-old singer and former model told Canal Plus that she has accepted the offer, despite not knowing what the role will be. "I'm not an actress at all. Perhaps I'll be completely hopeless but I can't miss an opportunity like this one," she explained.
"When I'm a grandmother I'd like to be able to say I made a film with Woody Allen."
Allen said that Bruni was "without question" his first choice for the forthcoming female lead.
"I'm sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma, and she performs, so she's not a stranger to an audience," he added.
