The Weinstein Company and Dimension Films are behind the forthcoming movie. A director is already in talks to helm, reports Bloody Disgusting.
The 2005 Platinum Dunes reboot of the cult horror earned more than $108m (£65m) worldwide.
Both the '79 original and '05 remake centre on a family who are terrorised by demonic forces after moving into a home that was the site of a mass-murder.
Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George starred in the Platinum Dunes version.
