Paramount picks up Peli's 'Area 51'
Paramount Pictures has picked up distribution rights to Area 51, director Oren Peli's follow-up to Paranormal Activity.

Like Peli's haunted house hit, Area 51 features a "found footage" angle, reports Variety. The thriller centres on a group of teenagers who stumble across the famous military base in Nevada, which has become a focus of modern UFO and alien conspiracy theories.

"Moviegoers everywhere demanded to see Oren Peli's spectacular debut and we are excited to show them what he's created next," said Paramount's Adam Goodman.

Principal photography wrapped three weeks ago. The film will be released sometime in 2010.
