'Moon', 'Fish Tank' triumph at BIFAs

'Moon', 'Fish Tank' triumph at BIFAs
Moon and Fish Tank were the big winners at last night's 12th British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs), taking home two prizes each.

Science fiction movie Moon won the coveted 'Best British Independent Film' award, while its director Duncan Jones picked up the prize for 'Best Debut Filmmaker'. Fish Tank helmer Andrea Arnold scooped the best director gong and the coming-of-age drama's lead Katie Jarvis took home the promising newcomer trophy.

Carey Mulligan and Tom Hardy won the top acting awards for their breakthrough turns in An Education and Bronson respectively.

Elsewhere, Armando Ianuccci's In The Loop landed the prize for 'Best Screenplay' and vampire horror Let The Right One In took the 'Best Foreign Film' prize.

  • Most Promising Newcomer - Katie Jarvis (Fish Tank)

  • Best Documentary - Mugabe And The White African

  • Best Foreign Film - Let The Right One In

  • Outstanding Contribution - Daniel Day-Lewis

  • The Variety Award - Sir Michael Caine
