The Twilight star was quizzed as to whether he had given much thought to appearing in a superhero film during an interview with Frank Boyle.
He replied: "Well, yeah, I think everyone wonders about that sometimes. My little cousin tells me I look like Magneto, so I guess that's who I should probably play."
Spinoff movie X-Men Origins: Magneto is currently in the works, but X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner and the film's writer David Goyer have recently admitted that it is not a high-priority project.
X-Men Origins: Magneto, a look at the early life of the self-proclaimed master of magnetism, has a tentative release date of 2013.
