Jason Reitman's drama, which centres on a corporate downsizer trying to collect 10 million frequent flyer miles, has been nominated in the 'Best Drama', 'Best Screenplay' and 'Best Director' categories, along with acting nods for Clooney, Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
"I can't put into words how exciting it is to feel and to know that I'll be going to the Golden Globes with everyone I worked with on this film," The AP quotes Reitman as saying. "This was one of those ensembles that we really enjoyed working together. We're a tight-knit family. The idea that we're going together is just wonderful."
Musical Nine picked up five nominations, including 'Best Musical Or Comedy Film' and nods for Daniel Day Lewis, Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard.
In the 'Best Film' category, Up In The Air faces competition from Avatar, The Hurt Locker, Inglourious Basterds and Precious.
There are strong showings from Brit stars in the 'Best Actress' category, with Carey Mulligan (An Education), Helen Mirren (The Last Station) and Emily Blunt (The Young Victoria) landing nominations.
Elsewhere, Meryl Streep will compete against herself for 'Best Actress In A Musical Or Comedy' for her roles in It's Complicated and Julia & Julia.
The Golden Globes take place on January 17 next year in Los Angeles.
