If you happen to have some unwanted relatives staying around over the holiday period, then flick onto Meet The Spartans (Sky Movies Comedy, 10.15am) and they'll be off in a shot. As will your own sanity. For family fun, you could do worse than a dose of Robin Williams mania in Flubber (BBC1, 11.15am) followed by the legendary trio of Douglas, DeVito and Turner in Romancing The Stone (C4, 1.05pm).
The season wouldn't be the same without a showing of Steve McQueen in The Great Escape (Sky Movies Screen 1, 2.25pm). If you'd rather contend with pyramids than prisoner of war camps, then check out the disposable but wildly enjoyable 1999 version of The Mummy (Sky Movies Christmas, 3.50pm).
Why not enter 2010 with some fava beans and a nice chianti courtesy of Hannibal Lecter in Silence Of The Lambs (Sky Movies Modern Greats, 10.40pm). For those who have ventured out for a few beverages to take in the New Year, then acclaimed auteur Nicholas Ray's classic film noir They Live By Night (BBC2, 3.15pm) will sober you up.
Don't bother with any raw egg style hangover cures, simply let your brain un-mush itself in front of Batman (Film4, 11am). No, not the dark Christopher Nolan or Tim Burton versions - but the spinoff movie from the late '60s camp classic TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward. Kapow!
Two of the best movies ever adorn the afternoon schedules. Quite probably the greatest comedy ever - Some Like It Hot (ITV1, 12.30pm) - is followed by the legendary Judy Garland musical The Wizard Of Oz (C5, 3.50pm). Although Jack Lemmon quips that 'nobody's perfect' in the former flick, these movies pretty much are.
The evening provides plenty of fun in the shape of Swinging Sixties caper The Italian Job (C4, 7.05pm). If you like your action played a bit straighter and don't fancy blowing any bloody doors 'orf, then tune into the premiere of latest Bond blockbuster The Quantum Of Solace (Sky Movies Premiere, 8pm). Ensure the Mute Button is on standby for the ghastly opening theme though.
If a good, politically incorrect laugh is what you’re after, then you can't really beat the genius of There's Something About Mary (Film4, 9pm). It also contains some great hairstyle tips to take into the New Year too...
