The film's visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas posted news of the project's filming status on her blog, reports Superherohype.
"Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!" she wrote. "While it's great news we are a go - now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks! But we have an amazing crew - so we will make it happen!"
Green Lantern, which is based on a DC Comics hero who inherits a power ring, is to film in New Orleans. Martin Campbell will direct Ryan Reynolds in the lead role.
The movie has been scheduled to open in cinemas on June 17, 2011.
