The 21-year-old has revealed her thoughts on playing Lindsey Salmon, the cast and the film's universal appeal.
Speaking to Radar Online, McIver said: "It’s been exciting. It’s better than you imagine. Peter [Jackson] is so fantastic, down-to-earth."
The actress, who had to play the role at three different ages, insisted that the most difficult scene to film was where she had to flee from Golden Globe-nominated actor Stanley Tucci.
She continued: "There were so many takes and I had to be terrified for the scene and with the physical demands of the scene, it was quite difficult."
As for working with Mark Walhberg, she said: "It was very flattering to play Mark’s daughter. I feel very lucky because of my family line in the movie."
McIver added: "I think what’s wonderful about the film is it has something for people who want a thriller and people who want a romance."
The Lovely Bones is currently playing in the US and arrives in UK cinemas on January 29.
