Martin Scorsese is in talks to direct a movie based on Brian Selznick's children's book The Invention Of Hugo Cabret, says Variety.

The Oscar-winning director will reteam with his Departed producer Graham King to make the feature, revolving around a 12-year-old orphan who lives in a Paris train station and attempts to repair a robot man.

Scorsese's Aviator writer John Logan has penned the script for Hugo Cabret, which will be produced independently through GK Films before seeking distribution.

Selznick's 533-page picture book scooped the prestigious Randolph Caldecott Medal in 2008.
