Rex Features
The studio has hired Street Kings writer Jamie Moss to rework an Apes script written by Scott Frank, who has since left the project, according to New York magazine.
Frank's original script, tentatively titled Caesar, centred on the genetic experimentation on apes that led to their evolution and conquest of man. Frank apparently parted ways with Fox after it decided to go in a different direction with the film.
Producer Peter Chernin is spearheading the project.
Writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver have also been brought on to work on the script.
No production date has been announced.
