Speaking to Wired, the actor revealed that he is planning to "step away" from the sci-fi franchise until he is asked to reprise his role as Enterprise first officer Spock.
"I'm stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years - no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while," he said.
Quinto added that he plans to explore other acting opportunities before the next Trek blockbuster moves into production.
"I want to invite [my fans] along with me on my journey, which is going to take them out of their comfort zone and into other areas and other styles of storytelling," he commented.
Paramount recently announced a June 29, 2012 release date for J.J. Abrams's Star Trek sequel.
