The 45-year-old actor, who is best known for playing Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, said that he would definitely accept the part of the musician if the right script came along.
Serkis told NME magazine: "I could do Bono. Someone will have to write the screenplay."
The star also said that he would be interested in playing Pogues singer Shane MacGowan, saying: "Someone also suggested Shane MacGowan to me, that's not a bad story."
Talking about his potential reprisal of Gollum, Serkis added: "Nothing's signed and sealed with The Hobbit yet, but it's looking pretty certain. I spent a day with [director and producer] Guillermo del Toro and we talked about how Gollum was going to be approached."
