The Invictus star, who previously stated that he would not return to the series unless Paul Greengrass came back to the director's chair, admitted that a sequel to The Bourne Ultimatum could be "five years away".
"There'll probably be a prequel of some kind with another actor and another director before we do another one just because I think we're probably another five years away from doing it - we've got to get a script..." he told Empire.
Damon will reteam with Greengrass for next month's Iraq-set thriller Green Zone, about a soldier who uncovers a government conspiracy in Baghdad.
