The Dorian Gray actor features alongside Goode and Moore in Tom Ford's directorial debut.
Firth said: "Matthew Goode was a pretty good kisser. Julianne Moore was better but I wasn't supposed to be enjoying it
"That was the only time that Tom Ford had to get on my case saying I was supposed to be playing a gay man and to keep your hands to yourself and get your tongue out of her mouth."
Of award speculation around his role, he added: "God knows, I'm trying not to think about it. You don't know how much you've invested in something until you have a disappointment."
