The Weinstein brothers sold Miramax to the Walt Disney Company in 1993 and broke ties with the parent company completely in 2005. Ever since, film revenue for Miramax has gone into decline.
"I'm sad that it's closing," Harvey Weinstein said. When asked if he would buy back Miramax, he replied: "As people approach me, I'm considering all my options."
The studio, founded by the Weinstein brothers in 1979, was responsible for the production of films such as The English Patient, Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare In Love.
In 2005, the Weinstein brothers formed the Weinstein Company, an independent studio that has garnered 13 Academy Award nominations.
