Recent internet speculation has suggested that DC Comics senior vice-president Dan DiDio has been planning to revisit the graphic novel through one movie update and a series of prequel books.
However, a source denied to Deadline Hollywood that a follow-up to the film is in the works.
The insider said: "There is no truth to anything related to a movie sequel. Not a chance by a longshot. With regards to the comics, well, I guess anything is possible. I'll keep my opinion to myself as to whether it's a smart idea to do so."
Watchmen has now become DC's bestselling comic book of all time.
