CBC News says that the singer will play a crazed fan in Score: A Hockey Musical.
The movie's director Michael McGowan explained: "Nelly is an incredible entertainer and after speaking to her, I realised that she fully relished embracing her inner hockey fanatic."
Olivia Newton-John and Marc Jordan will also appear in the film as the parents of Furtado's character.
The cast will reportedly start shooting the movie next month.
