The website claims to have received the tip from a source inside the studio.
According to the insider, the success of Avatar has prompted Universal to move ahead with a 3D update of Steven Spielberg's 1975 classic suspense film.
The source also reported that 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan was at one time the top contender to portray Matt Hopper in the remake. Richard Dreyfuss played Hopper in the original.
Universal produced several Jaws sequels after the original's debut, including 1983's Jaws 3-D.
The studio has yet to confirm this rumour.
