According to Female First, the 1982 movie will be spearheaded by the women of Legally Blonde and the producers of the Twilight franchise.
Screenwriters Karen McCulluh and Kirsten Smith will redevelop the script of the film, which will be shot as a big-budget musical.
The original film, which also starred Burt Reynolds, featured Parton's anthem 'I Will Always Love You'.
Parton recently announced that she will be turning her life story into a biopic.
