Martin Scorsese and Lars von Trier are reportedly teaming up for a sequel to Taxi Driver, says Hollywood Elsewhere.

A report has surfaced in Danish film magazine Ekko claiming that the duo will bring back Robert De Niro to reprise his role as Travis Bickle, a socially maladjusted cab driver who fantasises about cleaning up the streets of New York.

Taxi Driver, written by Paul Schrader and released in 1976, is considered one of the most iconic films in modern American cinema. Its success helpled to push De Niro and Scorsese onto Hollywood's A-list.

Scorsese has previously voiced his admiration for von Trier's work, naming the controversial Danish filmmaker's Breaking The Waves in his top ten movies of the '90s.
