Lars von Trier's producer Peter Aalbaek Jensen has dismissed rumours that the controversial Antichrist director is involved in a sequel to Taxi Driver.

A report recently emerged in Danish magazine Ekko claiming that von Trier had approached Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to revisit the Travis Bickle character from their iconic 1976 film.

However, Jensen called the rumours "rubbish", telling Screen Daily: "I have seen it [the story] in the Danish film magazine and what is written there is not true."

Von Trier, whose work includes Dancer In The Dark and Dogville, was previously involved in a project similar to the rumoured Taxi Driver revival. The 2003 documentary Five Obstructions saw him challenge director Jørgen Leth to recreate one of his early films.
