The Crazies screenwriter Scott Kosar has been hired to rewrite Summit Entertainment's action horror film Vlad, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The script was originally penned by Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam. The film reportedly retells the story of Dracula, also known as Vlad the Impaler, as an action-adventure tale.

Music video director Anthony Mandler has been tapped to helm the project, produced by Brad Pitt and his Plan B Entertainment partner Dede Gardner.

Kosar's other writing credits include the 2003 Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and the 2004 drama The Machinist. His update of George A. Romero's The Crazies is to hit US cinemas on February 26.
