According to First Showing, Lucas, who is executive producing the film, is unhappy with Hemingway's work on the movie and is to take on the directing reigns to oversee "massive" reshoots. John Ridley's script has also reportedly been reworked for the additional scenes.
Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr and Bryan Cranston star in Red Tails, which centres on pilots overcoming racism within the armed forces to form the first African-American fighter squadron in US military history.
The project, which completed initial filming last November, is inspired by the 332nd Fighter Group, a team who operated in World War II and were dubbed the Red Tails. Lucas has been discussing making the movie for more than two decades.
