Warner, Odeon make UK digital cinema deal
Warner Bros Pictures International and Odeon have made an agreement to speed up digital cinema conversions across the UK.

According to Screen Daily, the studio will make financial contributions to Odeon towards the switchover and supply the chain's DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives) compliant projection systems with digital movies. Plans are also afoot for Odeon to expand their digital cinemas across Europe.

"While we are starting with the UK, this deal clearly presages deals we are now working on with our other European territories," said Odeon and UCI Cinemas Group chief executive Rupert Gavin. "We look forward to bringing fully digital cinemas to guests in all seven of the markets Odeon and UCI Cinemas Group serves by the end of 2010."

WBPI's president of distribution Veronika Kwan-Rubinek said that she was "thrilled" with the deal as it shows a joint commitment to "enhance the theatrical experience".
