Steinfeld signs on for 'True Grit'

The star will play Mattie in the Coen Brothers' remake of the 1969 John Wayne Western based on the novel by Charles Portis.
Steinfeld's 14-year-old character, who was originally played by Kim Darby, is the daughter of a murdered man. She hires Cogburn, portrayed by Jeff Bridges, to track the killer.
The actress beat out 15,000 other hopefuls for the role, according to Empire Online.
True Grit will also star Matt Damon and Josh Brolin.
