The fantasy book, which was released three weeks ago in the US and in the UK in 2007, has already secured a place on the New York Times children's bestsellers list. Fisher's follow-up, titled Sapphique, is due out in the US next January.
The story centres on a boy who is lives in a prison that resembles a complete society. When he meets the warden's daughter, the pair discover a key that could change the world forever.
Fox held off bids from two other studios to win the Incarceron rights. It is hoping to quickly spin the dystopian tale into a franchise and has enlisted John Palermo and High Jackman's Seed Productions to steer the first film.
