The Percy Jackson and Tropic Thunder star will play Trent, the teenage nephew of Lawrence's cross-dressing FBI agent Malcolm Turner.
The new comedy, which director John Whitesell is reportedly insisting should not be titled Big Momma's House 3, will see Malcolm and Trent go undercover at an all-girls performing arts school to track down a murderer.
The first two Big Momma's House movies were box office hits, bringing in more than $300 million combined worldwide.
