Sean Bean for 'Death Race 2'

Lord of the Rings actor Sean Bean has signed to co-star in Death Race 2.

The film is billed as a straight-to-DVD prequel to the 2008 action movie starring Jason Statham, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Bean joins the already cast Luke Goss, Ving Rhames, Danny Trejo and Frederick Koehler in the project, produced by Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the original.

The prequel centres on the character Frankenstein (Goss), a convict serving time in a corrupt prison system that is prepping for a reality racing show.

Bean is also starring in HBO's upcoming fantasy series Game of Thrones.
