The studio has teamed up with Atlas Entertainment on the project, which centres on the exploits of seven disparate castaways on an uncharted and uninhabited island in the Pacific.
Charles Roven (The Dark Knight) and Richard Suckle are producing the project, while the original show's producer Sherwood Schwartz is serving as executive producer with his son Lloyd Schwartz. Brad Copeland has been hired to write the script.
"The characters are so good. We think it's going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day," Roven said.
Sherwood Schwartz has allegedly expressed an interest in recruiting Michael Cera for the titular Gilligan role and Beyoncé to portray movie star Ginger Grant.
Gilligan's Island ran from 1964 to 1967 on CBS before finding success in syndication. The series ended with the castaways still stranded after the show wasn't renewed for a fourth season.
