Francis Lawrence has signed on to direct an upcoming film based on Marco Polo, according to MTV News.
The I Am Legend director has teamed up with writers Adam Cooper and Bill Collage for the adventure-fantasy about the 13th century explorer.
Cooper and Collage insist that the film is not a biopic, though details of the plot and title have yet to be revealed.
"We see this as something that takes place in the Orient of our imagination amid the cultural clash of the East and the West," said Cooper.
This project marks the third in which Cooper and Collage have re-envisioned a classic tale, the first focusing on Moses, and the most recent a reinterpretation of Moby Dick.
