Robert De Niro has signed to produce the follow-up, which is being scripted by Role Models scribe Timothy Dowling.
The original film centred on De Niro's bounty hunter escorting an embezzler, portrayed by Charles Grodin, across the country.
The second instalment will reportedly pair De Niro with a younger comedic actor.
De Niro's Tribeca Films partner Jane Rosenthal is also producing.
