A new interpretation of 1986 thriller The Hitcher will be produced by Platinum Dunes.
The original Robert Harmon-directed movie saw C. Thomas Howell as a teenager who picks up homicidal hitchhiker Rutger Hauer who refuses to be shaken off.
Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay told Variety that their version will feature some extra plot twists, one possibility being making the protagonist female.
The company has already released two successful remakes - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Amityville Horror.
